Novela epica ambientada en Uruguay, testimonio de las guerras americanas del siglo XIX. A gloomy and frightful night spreads its wings over the world, like an immense tombstone. Not a star is visible through its pitch black veil: the moon drifts hidden behind a cloud pavilion, and only at intervals lets slip ray of tepid, languid light, which shines and then goes out in an instant, such a fatuous fire as rises from the grave. Everywhere the light is enveloped by shadow, and it could be said that the stars are fleeing the voice of the genius of the shadows, hiding in terror of such thick darkness. An epic novel set in Uruguay, documenting the American wars of the 19th Century. Caramuru means -long thing- in Guarani, and refers to the eel. The protagonist of the novel goes by this nickname and is the son of an indigenous man and a Spanish woman, who wears chiripa and casaquilla, torn by a conflict of identity and an epic sense of justice. The story is agile and managees to turn a story of romantic love into a complex plot full of political intrigue.
